Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (Bangla: শিল্পকলা একাডেমী) (National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts) is the principal state-sponsored national cultural center of Bangladesh. It is a successor to the former Pakistan Arts Council.
Shilpakala Academy was established at Segunbagicha, Dhaka in 1974 by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Govt. of Bangladesh. 
 
The academy consists of five administrative divisions: (1) Research and Publication Division, (2) Finance, Accounts and Planning Division, (3) Fine Arts Division, (4) Drama Division and (5) Music and Dance Division. These divisions are run by five directors. The Director General, who is appointed by the Government of Bangladesh, is the chief executive of the academy.


 





                                            
 




The principal objectives of this institution are presenting the Culture of Bangladesh and fostering the arts including fine arts, music, dance and drama. The activities of the Academy include patronizing and helping artists, sanctioning grants to Government-approved cultural institutions and organisations, conducting research on traditional heritage and culture, arranging art exhibitions and organising festivals of music and drama at national and international levels. It also holds cultural functions, arranges conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops, debates, etc.
 

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts) The principal cultural centre of Bangladesh, successor to the former Pakistan Arts Council, was set up at Segunbagicha, dhaka in 1974 by an Act of Parliament. It is a national institution and is administered by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The activities of the academy include patronising and helping artists, sanctioning grants to government-approved cultural institutions and organisations, conducting research on traditional heritage and culture, arranging art exhibitions and organising festivals of music and drama at national and international levels. It also holds cultural functions, arranges conferences, seminars, symposiums, workshops, debates, etc.


Under its initiative, arts and cultural troupes of Bangladesh are sent abroad and foreign cultural delegates are invited to Bangladesh. The academy also honours cultural personalities of the country for their contributions. It publishes books, periodicals, souvenirs, etc on different aspects of art and culture.

The Shilpakala Academy houses a modern stage where dramatic and cultural performances are held. There is also an art gallery where art exhibitions are held. Since 1990 the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has been publishing an annual English journal, Shilpakala.
Branches of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy have been set up in almost all districts. Branches are also being set up at upazila levels.

Faruk Mahfuj Anam (Bangla: ফারুক মাহফুজ আনাম), known simply as James guru is a Bangladeshi singer, guitarist and composer. He was a member of the band Feelings and later formed the band Nagar Baul. James was raised in Chittagong and later moved to Dhaka for his singing career.

Stylishly long-haired James — overwhelmingly known as the Nagar Baul (the Urban Bard), was the pioneer of psychedelic rock in Bangladesh.But his musical diversity includes various genres of Rock music and Blues Music. Originally a lead singer and guitarist, he has always been respected for his solo projects. His presence in rock music has been prolonged; his influence on those of successive generations has been profound. Something fresh was there—the audience could feel it. He became affectionately called Guru by his innumerable fans. His tunes were bright and his singing a divergence from the archetypal tunes preferred by the commercial-type directors. His songs expressed social aspects nature,love,rage, discontent, frustration and happiness.

James entered the Bollywood with Bheegi Bheegi inspired from "Prithibi" by Moheener Ghoraguli in the movie Gangster.



James is now busy with his bands making world tour in North America and Europe. He is also attending in Bollywood again with another song for another movie. His recent album is Tufan and Kaal Jomuna. James also owns a famous production house called "Red Dot" which is already well known after doing amazing job for "D Rockstar 2" and made some popular adds for some cell-phone companies. Recently James performed as a model after a long time in a soft drink advertisement.
He rose to fame internationally with his Hindi song 'Bheegi Bheegi', written for the 2006 Bollywood hit film Gangster, which topped b4u Hindi song top chart constantly for four weeks. and has toured internationally with his band Nagar Baul. He is described as having pioneered psychedelic rock in Bangladesh.
